Andrea Alvin

Andrea Alvin

California-born and raised, with a degree from the renowned Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Alvin is a fairly recent transplant to the Hudson Valley, breaking from the commercial world of movie marketing to the more fine-art-centered world of New York City. Alvin spent the early years of her career as an animation designer and layout artist for many national commercials and several years as a layout artist at Hanna-Barbera. Andrea and her noted illustrator husband/partner John created ad campaigns and posters for many major motion pictures. In addition she is credited with illustrating many children's books for Disney publishing and packaging art for Disney consumer products. As a fine artist, her work is recognized and exhibited throughout the United States. She is known for her portrayal of everyday objects from nostalgic popular culture - candy, junk food and toys - painted in a style located somewhere between 19th-century Impressionism and more modern Photorealism. "Beyond simple representation, I try to capture the childlike feeling of delving into another world where we are safe, solitary adventurers gazing up at the next great Wonder - staged and lit and ready for it's close up."
