Wyland

Wyland

Robert Wyland, today known simply as Wyland, was born in 1956 in Detroit, Michigan, and began doing creative work from a young age. Growing up with a love of dinosaurs and Jurassic beings, he was later influenced by the legendary Captain Jacques Cousteau, which inspired him to study marine life. Captain Cousteau is still the main influence in Wyland's belief in caring for the environment. Wyland first encountered the adoration of whales when he saw a TV show hosted by Captain Cousteau about whales. Wyland has earned the reputation of being one of America's most exceptional innovative influences, as well as an outspoken advocate for marine resource conservation. His non-profit Wyland Foundation supports several conservation programs, including his monumental "100 Whaling Walls" mural project - an epic series of one hundred life sized marine life murals that spans twelve countries on four continents - which is viewed by an estimated 1 billion people every year. The project is now documented in a deluxe Collector's Fine Art Book - one of 20 this prolific artist has written and published so far. The artist's efforts, moreover, have been recognized by the United Nations, Sierra Club, the Underwater Academy of Arts and Sciences, where he is listed among its Diving Hall of Fame, and private and public institutions throughout the world. The multi-faceted artist, scuba diver, educator, and explorer has hosted several television programs, including, "Wyland's Ocean World" series on the Discovery Channel's Animal Planet Network, "Wyland: A Brush With Giants" and "Wyland's Art Studio," a series for national public television. His mission of engaging people through nature-themed art and a more environmentally friendly lifestyle has led to strategic alliances with such notable organizations as the United States Olympic Team, United Nation Environment Program, and Walt Disney Studios, to name a few. Wyland currently lives in California, Hawaii, and Florida when he is not traveling.
